MTV’s Campaigns Target Digital Abuse and Promote Healthy Sexuality

MTV has two great pro-social campaigns helping young people take control of their minds and bodies in a digital age, with an emphasis on staying informed and healthy.

A Thin Line campaign recognizes that as the ways we interact and communicate change, lines that were once clear can begin to blur – the line between public and private, curiosity and controlling behavior, “harmless” jokes and hateful harassment. This is the first generation to deal with problems like forced sexting, textual harassment, and cyber bullying, which makes it all the more important for us to come together and talk about how to identify and deal with digital abuse. A Thin Line’s website has it all – you can find everything from testimonial videos and interactive quizzes to a wealth of online resources and activist opportunities for fighting back against digital abuse.

It’s Your (Sex) Life is an award-winning campaign from MTV and the Kaiser Family Foundation taking the stance that whether they are sexually active or not, young people should have access to all the information they need to make their own choices. IYSL puts all the information in one place so that you can get the facts fast – facts about difficult topics like talking to your partner about getting tested, how to be proactive when it comes to protection, and staying both physically and emotionally healthy. The campaign has directly reached out to young women by partnering up with Eve Ensler around the release of her book “I Am An Emotional Creature: The Secret Life Of Girls Around The World,” and features video monologues about pregnancy, abusive relationships and more.
