Nadia Bourne is a slam poet and activist currently studying at St. John’s University in New York.

Take Care is a poem Nadia Bourne wrote lamenting a break up with a woman she once dated.

“Going into this relationship I knew that she had issues with the way she viewed herself and in past relationships. However, I still used this as ammunition. I realized that this phenomena was more about me than it was her,” Bourne said. “I bought into this unrealistic social normative of beauty which we all fall short of. She was always enough, but she could never be enough for me because I wasn’t enough for me. This is more than an apology to her, but a means of making amends with myself.”
